Salted Caramel Apple Pie Biscuit Bites
I love bringing dessert to Sunday dinner with my family. In fact, when I don’t make it, I feel bad because I think they just kind of assume I’m going to bring something. And I have to make sure whatever I bring is GOOD, as my sister splurges on her diet for my desserts!! I thought this recipe for Salted Caramel Apple Pie Biscuit Bites (from the picky-palate website) might just be splurge-worthy.
This is another recipe made in my cast iron skillet. I just love baking in this thing!!
Melt your butter in the skillet then add diced apples, cinnamon and brown sugar. Cut your store bought biscuits into bite sized pieces and add them to your butter mixture. Then you make a custard by whisking together half and half, egg yolk, brown sugar and cinnamon then pour over biscuits. Bake for about 30 minutes (mine was done at 30 minutes). Drizzle with salted caramel (I used Smuckers) and the icing (made by mixing confectioners sugar and heavy whipping cream together).
These bites taste like little apple pies! I was worried they would be overly sweet with the brown sugar, caramel and glaze…but it isn’t. The biscuits are nice and savory and totally cut the sweetness from the ingredients. I actually added a little bit of sea salt to the top too, as I love salty salted caramel.
These bites would be an awesome addition to a brunch or a potluck…or Sunday dinner dessert!
