Instant Pot Applesauce
So, I usually by applesauce for my littles in individual cups at the grocery store. They are not terribly expensive, but they are not really a staple on my grocery list either. Now that I have my Instant Pot, we have home made applesauce, on hand, all the time. It’s just too easy to make! And being able to control what ingredients go into my applesauce is pretty great.
This recipe was found on Busy Mommy Media website, and I modified it just a tiny bit.
You start out peeling and coring 8-10 apples. This step actually took me longer that the cooking! Slice the apples in sections and place in your Instant Pot with 1/2 cup of water. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of cinnamon on top. I added a bit of vanilla at this step too. Set your pot for 8 minutes (8 minutes, seriously!). Let your apples sit a couple minutes after time is up and then release the pressure. You can manually smash your apples up or you can use an immersion blender, like I did, as my kiddies like a less chunky sauce.
Now, I did not use any additional sweeteners in my applesauce. I would have preferred it a little sweeter, but my kids did not complain about it, so I didn’t add any. But if I did, I would probably use a little bit of honey instead of sugar…but feel free to add any kind of sweetener when adding your cinnamon!
My girls go wild for this stuff. I actually “package” it in small Ziploc containers, resembling the size of prepackaged applesauce cups. This has fast become our favorite after school treat!
